We become, very efficiently, a species that chooses consistency over curiosity and then files that as maturity. AI is being used to industrialize the elmination of imagination.

The real risk of AI is not that it wakes up, goes full Skynet, and seizes control of the world to dramatic orchestral music. That makes for great cinema, but it’s frankly too optimistic about our ongoing relevance. It assumes we’ll still be interesting enough to conquer.

The more plausible ending is far less theatrical: we simply get spectacularly comfortable in a magnificent, optimized rut. When consistency becomes the highest virtue, stasis becomes the default destination. Our species, birthed by mutation and propelled by inconvenient questions, drifts into a very polite, well-governed coma. Not resilient, but embalmed.

If this continues, future archaeologists will conclude that around the early 2020s, the species simply lost the plot and started copy-editing itself to death. The only unanswered question: would the future archaeologists be Robots or Roaches?

AI does not have to overthrow humanity. Humanity is simply opted out by voluntarily outsourcing curiosity to a risk register.
