สวัสดีทุกคนที่คลิกเข้ามาอ่านนะคะ รีวิวนี้จะเป็นการเล่าสู่กันฟังให้รุ่นน้องรุ่นต่อๆไปจากความทรงจำอันเลือนลางของคนเขียนเองค่ะ มันผ่านมาได้สักพักแล้วจริงๆแต่ตอนนั้นยังไม่มีmotivationในการเขียนรีวิว ว่างๆก่อนเปิดเทอมเลยหาฤกษ์มาเขียนจนได้ หวังว่ารีวิวนี้จะช่วยทุกคนไม่ว่าทางใดก็ทางหนึ่งนะคะ555

รอบที่เรายื่นคือรอบ early admission ก็คือรอบแรกนั่นเองค่ะ (ประมาณช่วงมกราคม 2021) สำหรับเกณฑ์คะแนนของรอบแรกจะมีตามนี้ค่ะ

นอกเหนือจาก high school degree (และเอกสารการสมัครมากมายอย่างอื่นที่ทางคณะจะประกาศในเว็บ ให้คอยติดตามดูไว้นะคะ)เราก็ต้องส่งคะแนนและSOP* พร้อมใบสมัครค่ะ ส่วนตัวเราส่งคะแนน SAT verbel: 570 และ CU-TEP: 95 ไปค่ะ ซึ่งจากการตามอ่านกระทู้และคำบอกเล่าของรุ่นพี่ๆรุ่นก่อนๆ ทุกคนต่างบอกเสียงเดียวกันว่าคะแนนไม่ใช่ตัวตัดสิน ขอให้ถึงเกณฑ์ที่ทางคณะกำหนดก็มีสิทธิแล้วค่ะ

• ในส่วนของ SOP หรือ Statement of Purpose (เรากับเพื่อนเรียกมันว่า ซบเซา เพราะช่วงที่นั่งเขียนกันมันซบเซามากๆเลยค่ะ ) คือจดหมายแนะนำตัวและความมุ่งมั่นของเราในการเข้าเรียนมหาลัย/คณะนั้นๆค่ะ ซึ่งในประสบการณ์ของเราที่ไม่เก่งด้านการเขียน เรามีปัญหากับซบเซามากที่สุดเลยค่ะ จำได้ว่านึกกับตัวเองว่านั่งทำSATยังง่ายกว่าอีก ซึ่งถามว่าทำไมถึงเครียดกับซบเซามากๆ เพราะจากการหาข้อมูลก่อนหน้านี้ หลายๆคนบอกว่าการสัมภาษณ์รอบแรก อาจารย์มักจะถามคำถาม based จาก SOP ของเราค่ะ แต่ในรอบสัมภาษณ์ของเราอาจารย์ดันไม่ถามอะไรจากซบเซาเลย T-T (ตรงนี้จากที่สอบถามเพื่อนๆหลายๆคนในรอบเดียวกัน ขึ้นอยู่กับอาจารย์ที่สัมภาษณ์เราเลยค่ะ บางคนถาม บางคนไม่ถาม)

INTERVIEW

หลังจากที่ยื่นคะแนนและเอกสารไปทั้งหมดทางคณะจะประกาศรายชื่อคนที่มีสิทธิสอบสัมภาษณ์ (ซึ่งเรารู้สึกว่าเกือบทุกคนเลยค่ะที่ยื่นแล้วคะแนนผ่านเกณฑ์จะมีสิทธิสอบสัม) เราก็เริ่มทำแบบที่ทุกคนทำกันตอนนี้ค่ะ หาข้อมูล ตามอ่านกระทู้ของรุ่นพี่ ดูคลิปยูทูป เกี่ยวกับการสัมภาษณ์บาลัคทุกอย่างแล้วเราก็เริ่มลิสต์คำถามที่เราคิดว่าจะเจอพร้อมกับฝึกตอบค่ะ ซึ่งการฝึกพูดฝึกตอบตรงนี้ช่วยเราไว้มากจริงๆ แนะนำให้ฝึกกันเยอะๆตอนสัมจริงจะได้ไม่ตื่นเต้นมากค่ะ อีกอย่างที่ควรทำคือตามพวก current issues/news

รอบสัมภาษณ์ของเด็ก64 ส่วนมากจะเป็นออนไลน์หมดค่ะ ซึ่งเพิ่มความเครียดให้เด็ก64ไปกันอีกเยอะมาก;-; เราเลยพยายามพลิกวิกฤตให้เป็นโอกาสค่ะ55555 ทางคณะทำการสอบสัมภาษณ์ผ่าน Google meet ซึ่งรายละเอียดและกฎในการสัมภาษณ์จะถูกส่งมาให้นักเรียนก่อนแล้ว เราเลยเตรียมทำ Presentation/Portfolio สั้นๆไว้สำหรับตอนสัมค่ะ

Can you introduce yourself?

แน่นอนค่ะคำถามเบสิคแรก ซึ่งเราฝึกไว้แล้วข้อนี้! My name is XXXX. I’m 18 years old. I’m currently studying at XXXX School in English-French program. I’m also a Vice President of Class of 2021 and a part of the student council. I’m extremely excited to be invited to the interview. And Today I hope I can show you my potential in being one of the BALAC students.

Why BALAC?

I have discovered that I am passionate about learning different cultures and languages. I enjoy knowing about humanity and trying to piece together how we work, mentally and sociologically. When you learn about different cultures you see things in different perspectives. I found it nice to be able to see things from different perspectives. And I believe that choosing to learn about what we are passionate about will lead us to a happy and successful student life. So this University’s faculty is the answer to what I want to study in the next four years of my life. When I did more research on the curriculum, it set my mind even more straight that I want and I have to get into this faculty. Because BALAC doesn’t only teach about languages like other people may think, culture, global studies, society , philosophy and anthropology are also being taught. And I believe that with the faculty’s wide and comprehensive curriculums, the knowledge and skills I gained from attending this faculty will definitely be beneficial to me in the future. ตรงนี้เราก็หยิบpresentationที่เราเตรียมไว้เกี่ยวกับวิชาที่เราสนใจขึ้นมาค่ะ I’ve prepared a short presentation about the courses I’m interested in. May I share the screen? อาจารย์ก็คุยกันแป๊ปนึงแล้วก็บอกว่าถ้าไม่นานก็โชว์ได้ค่ะ

เราก็ค่อยๆพูดเหมือนตอนพรีเซนต์หน้าห้องอะค่ะ55555 There are many courses I’m extremely interested in such as Popular Culture which I think will be very useful to learn in this 21st century or Music culture because I like listening to music as my hobby. With this course it would teach me more in depth about the influence of music in our society. And Film Analysis, since I enjoy watching film this course will help me understand the meaning of the films more than just watching it for fun. Gender Studies is also on my ‘looking forward to learn’ list. Nowadays the topic gender has become popular and has been discussed more and more in Thai society. There are also several current issues related to this topic therefore I think mastering this course would be something that I should do[ in order to help improve Thai society(?). But one course that intrigued me as I was reading through the course descriptions is Dracula and Modern Culture Course**. Lately I have become interested in Dracula and never really realise that this topic has become a mass icon for many years. And it made me question a lot of things, for example how and why Dracula has become something so iconic, it could be werewolves or witches but at the end it turns out to be the iconic Dracula. Could you elaborate more on the several issues related to gender you mentioned before?

จากที่เราตอบไปข้อที่แล้ว อาจารย์ก็ย้อนถามค่ะ ซึ่งตอนนั้นเราแบบ กรี้ดดดด ไม่นะ เราพลาดแล้ว โดนถามจี้กลับ แต่โชคดีที่เราฝึกตอบเรื่อง current news/issuesไว้ค่ะ ซึ่งเราเตรียมเรื่องกฎหมายการทำแท้งไว้พอดีแล้วมัน related to gender เราเลยใช้คำตอบนั้นตอบค่ะ Abortion has been a taboo topic to discuss about in Thailand. But not long ago there have been protests about the abortion law that It should be legal for women to have abortion. The opposition to abortion comes mainly from Thailand’s majority of conservative Buddhists who believe that abortion goes against the teachings of Buddhism. But recently, Thailand’s Parliament has voted to make abortion legal. Anyone in Thailand who has an abortion after 12 weeks, except under conditions set by the country’s Medical Council, will face potential fines and up to six months in prison. The law represents some progress in a country that currently threatens to imprison people who have abortions at any stage of their pregnancy. However, many protesters still have some comments about the new law. Some said that “To make this kind of law, you have to prioritize women’s participation, especially women who have experience having abortions,” “The deliberation process gave roles to lawmakers and human rights lawyers, but there are no women who had experience with abortion or activists in the process.” In my opinion, abortion should be legal and women should be able to make her own decision without any pressure from others. After all the an abortion would have effect on women the most it should be their decision to make the call. It’s one’s body, one’s choice. A lot of Thai people concern that if abortion become legal the abortin rate will increase. However, there is no evidence that decriminalisation would lead to an increase in the rate of abortion nor numbers of later abortions. And laws criminalizing abortion compel people to resort to unsafe procedures to end an unwanted pregnancy, endangering their health and lives. (อันนี้สคริปต์นะคะ ตอนตอบอาจารย์ไม่ได้ตามนี้เป้ะๆ หลุดๆบ้างเพราะตอนนั้นเริ่มสติแตก)

IMPROMPTU SPEECH

มันมาแล้วค่ะทุกคน พาร์ทที่คนรอสัมทุกคนหวาดกลัว T-T อิมพรอมพ์ทูสปีช คือ การพูดสดโดยไม่ได้เตรียมมาก่อนค่ะ ซึ่งตรงนี้อาจารย์จะแรนด้อมหัวข้อมา 3 หัวข้อ เราต้องเลือก 2 หัวข้อจากทั้งหมดแล้วพูดให้มันเชื่อมโยงกันค่ะ

POLITICS / FOREIGN LANGUAGES / CONSUMERISM

แรนด้อมมา 3 คำ เราจะหงายหลังเลยค่ะ consumerismคืออะไร ไม่รู้เลยค่ะตอนนั้น ความรู้เป็นศูนย์ เราเลยเลือก Politics กับ Foreign Languages ไป ตรงนี้เราจะมีเวลา (ถ้าจำไม่ผิด) 2–3 นาทีในการเตรียมตัว แล้วพูดอีก 2–3 นาทีเหมือนกันค่ะ เราเลยหยิบกระดาษขึ้นมาเขียนเรียงเป็น mind map คร่าวๆว่าจะพูดอะไรบ้าง แต่พอถึงเวลาพูดจริงคือออกนอกทะเลมากค่ะ5555 สติคือล่องลอยแล้ว จำแทบไม่ได้เลยว่าโยงสองหัวข้อเข้าด้วยกันได้ไง ถ้าเราสอบแกทเชื่อมโยงคงได้ศูนย์5555

สิ่งที่ตอบไปเท่าที่จำได้นะคะ : Communication เป็น key สำคัญของ politics เพราะ politics คือการที่ politicians จะเสนอมุมมองของตัวเองให้ประชาชนได้เห็นว่าคิดยังไงเกี่ยวกับประเทศและอยากพัฒนาในส่วนไหน เราก็เริ่มยกตัวอย่างเคสที่ ลุงตู่จัดประชุมอาเซียนแต่ทั้งประชุมนั้นลุงพูดแต่ภาษาไทยค่ะ เราให้ความเห็นว่า ถ้าเลือกที่จะใช้ภาษาที่มันสากลกว่านี้(ภาษาอังกฤษ) การประชุมน่าจะeffectiveกว่ามากและสะดวกในการสื่อสารมากขึ้น

เสร็จแล้วอาจารย์ถามจี้ต่อ เพราะเหมือนเราเริ่มพูดไม่รู้เรื่องนอกทะเลแล้ว ณ จุดจุดนั้น

What are your thoughts on immigrants in COVID-19 situation in our country?

ซึ่งเราก็ตีความต่อจากคำถามของอาจารย์เองว่า อาจารย์ refer ถึงข่าวที่รัฐบาลปิดไม่ให้ immigrants เข้ามาในประเทศและกักกันพวกเขา โดยอาจารย์พูดเสริมต่อจากคำถามด้วยว่า Because most of the immigrants speaks Thai, I don’t think language barrier is the problem. เราก็เลยตอบไปประมาณว่า Yes, I agree that language barrier isn’t the problem. In my opinion the problem is that there aren’t any communication between these two. The government doesn’t want to communicate anymore meanwhile the immigrants tries to reach out to the media and various platform for them to be heard. Our government thought that the problem would resolve by shutting the immigrants out. And by this action มันจะส่งผลกระทบไปถึงอุตสาหกรรม เพราะแรงงานส่วนใหญ่ของไทยมาจาก immigrants แล้วมันจะไปกระทบ economics บ้านเราด้วย

ซึ่งทั้งหมดที่เขียนมานี้ ในความเป็นจริงพูดงูๆปลาๆ ติดๆ ขัดๆ มากค่ะ ไม่รู้เรื่องเลย ._.

คำถามสุดท้ายแล้ว ไม่มีคำถามจากSOPเลย ;-; เรายังเหลือportfolioที่ยังไม่ได้โชว์เราเลยถามว่าเราขอพรีเซนต์อีกนิดนึงได้มั้ย อาจารย์ก็ให้เราเลย share screen ไปอีกรอบค่ะ5555 (ในพอร์ตก็มีพวกแลกเปลี่ยน งานโรงเรียน ช่องยูทูป ฯลฯ)

หลังจากพรีเซนต์ตัวเองจบ5555 อาจารย์ก็ชมว่า You are very well-prepared. แบบได้ยินแล้วชื่นใจมาก แต่ก็ยังเครียดอยู่เพราะรู้สึกว่าตัวเองทำimpromptu speechแย่มากกก แต่เราก็ติดค่ะ! เย้!5555

ทั้งหมดนี้ก็คือประสบการณ์ของเรากับการยื่นรอบearly admissionsค่ะ สำหรับรุ่นน้องที่มาตามอ่านก็ขอให้โชคดี และตั้งใจเตรียมตัวนะคะ ทุกคนทำได้แน่นอน! I believe you can just be yourself during the interview if you really have the passion it will show and nothing could really go wrong haha
