“I’m Broke as Fuck But At Least I’m Not a Discourse Gremlin”
Pragmata made dudes want to be dads, Hasan called us pedos, and Shoe0nHead cooked him while I watched the whole game on YouTube.

Look, I’ve been deep in the trenches these past couple months — sending out endless job applications, staring at a bank account that’s basically on life support, and too broke as fuck to drop even $40 on Pragmata.
So I watched MKIceAndFire’s full walkthrough instead..YES…I know it sucks man!
I was trying to stay out of the noise, but this game kept flooding my timeline like crazy. For a second I was stuck between Pragmata and this new Aphelion game from Don’t Nod that kept popping up too. I checked out about 29 minutes of it and… yeah, it sucks. Total walking simulator vibes with janky controls. I didn’t even want to play it — it was just there on my feed. No thanks.
Eventually the nonstop Pragmata clips pulled me into the controversy instead.
And holy shit, what a circus.
When Pragmata launched and sold over a million copies in two days with solid reviews, you’d think people would talk about the actual game. Instead, the usual suspects decided the real crime wasn’t Capcom’s new sci-fi IP, it was you, the guys who played it, got hit with real feelings, and dared to say it made you think about fatherhood.

The Gameplay Actually Slaps Even through a walkthrough, it’s obvious why this one connected. You’re Hugh, a grizzled astronaut on a haunting lunar base, paired with Diana this small, childlike android who rides on your back. The core loop is genuinely fresh: real-time dual character control. You’re shooting, boosting, and blasting robots with Hugh while simultaneously managing Diana’s grid-based hacking
Plot the path, chain nodes, expose weak points, turn enemies on each other — all while dodging fire and staying alive. It’s satisfying split-brain multitasking. Limited healing makes every protective decision feel meaningful, and the better you sync with Diana, the stronger the gameplay gets. Underneath the shoot-hack combat and eerie atmosphere is a simple but effective story about a hardened guy learning to protect and care for a vulnerable kid. Classic gruff protector fantasy done right. I even saw a funny fan-made comparison floating around — side-by-side clips of Resident Evil’s Ashley (the “LEON! HELP!” escort mission queen) versus how Hugh handles Diana. The difference was night and day. Hugh is competent, proactive, and actually protects her like a pro, while Ashley… well, she’s Ashley.
The edit made me laugh out loud because there’s real truth in it — Pragmata actually nailed the protective fantasy that a lot of escort missions have fumbled in the past. A ton of players finished the game and openly posted stuff like “This made me want a daughter” or “Damn, that paternal instinct hit different.” Normal human reactions. Of course, that’s when the discourse gremlins showed up in full force. Hasan Piker (who clearly never played the game) went nuclear on stream, calling guys who connected with the father-daughter dynamic “unfuckable losers.” He mocked them for caring about family themes if they’re lonely gamers who’ll “never have sex with a woman,” and compared it to obsessing over Hot Cheetos recipe changes. Now these same gremlins are out here straight-up calling normal players pedos, fascists, incels, and every other buzzword they can fling. It’s pathetic as fuck. These sad, terminally online types get triggered by men expressing a wholesome protective instinct and immediately reach for the worst possible smears. Outlets piled on too. The Gamer ran pieces basically treating the positive reactions and “Diana fan club” as something disgusting that gaming “cannot allow.” The New York Times reviewed it through the “sad dad” lens, framing the whole thing as uncanny or emotionally hollow. Wanting to protect a kid in a video game suddenly became something weird and shameful.
Shoe0nHead Came Through and Cooked Thankfully
Shoe0nHead stepped in and absolutely dismantled the bad-faith takes. she calmly but brutally roasted the hypocrisy -Hasan the guy who constantly talks about male loneliness and atomization was now mocking men for expressing the exact instincts (protection, purpose, wanting a family) that might actually pull them out of that loneliness. She called out the performative outrage and the nihilistic vibe of shaming normal emotional responses to fiction. It hit hard. Hasan didn’t defend his original points instead he crashed out called them brain-damaged, and spiraled with unhinged rants. Even parts of his own chat started pushing back in real time. Longtime viewers called it out. The mask slipped completely, and Shoe0nHead exposed the whole grift.
This whole thing isn’t about Pragmata’s mechanics or story. It’s about people being uncomfortable with men openly saying a game stirred something wholesome in them. They’d rather label players as pedos, fascists, sad dads, or pathetic losers than admit a fun single-player game with creative combat and heart might be working exactly as intended. Pragmata isn’t perfect, but its gameplay loop is creative, the atmosphere rules, and the emotional core lands. I watched it broke and stressed, and it still came through. Big respect to Shoe0nHead for cutting through the noise and destroying that nonsense. And to the rest of you: if you can afford it, play the game. Master those hacking grids, protect Diana properly (unlike certain escort missions), and feel whatever the hell you want. Don’t let the outrage gremlins shame you for it. They’re not criticizing the game. They’re criticizing you for liking it. Keep gaming anyway.
