Is IPL becoming a batsman’s sport?

You know, I have always enjoyed watching IPL, and seeing those 4s and 6s being hit gives a dopamine rush. And it is the fall of continuous wickets that makes the whole stadium know where the match is going!

But in the recent IPL seasons, it has all changed. The games seem more like the Batsman Premier League. Earlier, scoring 200 meant you were all in the game, but now it doesn't even count as a par score in most cases.

This leaves us with a question: is it because bowlers are performing badly, or because batsmen have started playing fearless cricket, which is going in their favour?

Let me tell you, it is more than that.

A) I don't feel bowlers are performing badly. It is the pitch that does not favour them in the majority of stadiums! And then it does not matter if the world's best bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, is bowling or a spinner. Things are not just in your favour. And this ends up being a competition only between two batting sides, not a whole team, which is totally unfair.

B) And if I look at the second aspect, it boils down to the boundary. There should be a specific, standardised length for the boundary line. There are areas where the length is extremely short, and others where it is extremely long. When this is standardised, it not only helps the batter but also allows the bowler to bowl according to the strengths and wants, rather than just boundary coverage!

Though this might seem unfeasible to some, not making it a balanced batsmen vs bowlers game will eventually put the IPL's interest down!

So yes, watching 264 being chased and more than 500 runs being made in 40 overs can be exhilarating, but it is not fun for cricket as a sport.

Because when there is no rivalry between batsmen and bowlers, it becomes too monotonous for anyone to watch the game!
