Book Review: Unravel Me

I was really excited for this read after the first book hyped me up, unfortunately I didn’t enjoy Unravel Me as much.

First off all, I was really excited to explore this dystopian world after Juliette begun to describe it in the first book. However, most of the story was underground in the resistance, so there wasn’t much world building. Also, I just didn’t feel like the action was as exciting and didn’t care as much when the characters were fighting or when people were literally getting shot.

Second, though Kenji was a funny character, I wish he had more empathy towards Juliette. I appreciate him telling her that she can’t always cry over herself, but he also fails to understand that she has gone through unbelievably traumatic things and just needs someone to listen and comfort her.

Third, maybe it’s just me, but I got really frustrated when it was revealed that Adam and Warner share the same father. I just think the trope where two characters find out they’re related is really lazy. In the future, Adam and Warner could’ve had the chance to get to know and understand one another, but because they’re related they have to get along.

Also, it just kinda annoyed me how quickly Juliette forgave Warner and that they just hooked up in near the end of the book. I may just prefer slow burn, but when there are multiple books in a series and characters have gotten off on a really bad foot, they need time to grow to develop their relationship before it can become romantic.

Those are just my thoughts, maybe the series will improve later on.
