The Confidence-Sex Loop
And why it changes everything
The Confidence-Sex Loop
And why it changes everything

Here’s the thing that will reframe every conversation you’ve ever had about female confidence
Confidence doesn’t just help women have better sex.
Sex helps women become more confident.
It runs both ways. Simultaneously. Continuously. And the fact that nobody is teaching this to women is not an accident.
We’ve Been Solving the Wrong Problem
The confidence industrial complex, the books, the podcasts, the retreats, the affirmations treats confidence like a mindset problem. Fix your thoughts. Reframe your beliefs. Visualise your worth.
And for women specifically, sexuality gets quarantined from that conversation entirely. Confidence is discussed in boardrooms and negotiation tactics. Never in bedrooms. Never in desire. Never in the body.
That separation is doing serious damage.
Research from the Universities of Zurich and Utrecht tracked people over years and found something that should be on every therapist’s wall, higher self-esteem predicts more sexual satisfaction, AND higher sexual satisfaction predicts increased self-esteem over time.
It’s not a one-way street. It’s a loop.
And women have been handed maps that only show half of it.
What the Loop Actually Looks Like
Confident woman initiates what she wants. Gets it. Feels capable. Feels desired on her own terms. Self-esteem rises. She communicates more clearly next time. Gets more of what she wants. Loop continues.
Now run it in reverse, which is where most women start:
Woman doesn’t voice desire. Has sex, it might be great, fine or just ok. Learns nothing about herself. Stays slightly disconnected from her body. Confidence stays flat or drops. Repeats.
Same woman. Completely different trajectories. The only variable is whether she entered the loop.
This isn’t abstract. This is the actual mechanism behind why some women seem to get more magnetic, more grounded, more themselves as they get older, while others stay stuck performing a version of themselves they were handed at seventeen.
The Specific Thing That Makes This A Women’s Issue
The research is clear on something uncomfortable, the link between self-esteem and sexual well-being is significantly stronger for women than for men.
Men’s confidence is culturally reinforced through approximately everything. Achievement, status, physical dominance, wealth, professional success it all feeds the general self-esteem machine constantly.
Women’s confidence has historically had one primary socially sanctioned source. Being chosen.
Not choosing. Being chosen.
As a side note, this is precisely where much of the animosity some women direct toward confident or attractive women originates and the dynamic is frighteningly simple once you step back far enough to see it clearly.
There are women who have decided, consciously or otherwise, that they hold the authority over their own selection. They determine who approaches, who stays, what happens, and on what terms. They have effectively opted out of the game as it was handed to them. And then there are women who, for whatever reason, conditioning, circumstance, wounds that run too deep remain structurally dependent on being chosen.
Not because they are weak, but because the architecture of their self-worth was built on that foundation before they were old enough to question the blueprints. These women don’t always hate the confident woman for being attractive. They hate her for not needing it. For not playing. For making the game look optional when it has never felt optional to them.
Sex sits at the center of this tension as one of the few tools historically available to women to rewrite the terms of engagement entirely, to move from object of selection to active agent, to decide not just whether but how and why and with whom. Which is, of course, exactly why female sexuality has been so aggressively policed. An opt-out clause that actually works tends to get buried in the fine print.
Which means women’s self-esteem has been structurally dependent on external validation in intimate contexts while simultaneously being shamed for actively pursuing that validation.
You can’t win a game designed for you to lose. What you can do is stop playing it entirely and enter the loop on your own terms.
Here’s What Nobody Distinguishes. But Should
There are two completely different types of confidence at play here and conflating them is why the conversation always breaks down.
General self-esteem is your broad sense of worth. It shows up in how you handle criticism, whether you believe you deserve good things, how you cope with failure.
The one I struggle with.
Sexual self-esteem is domain-specific. It’s your belief in your capability and worth as a sexual being. It predicts independently, over and above general confidence, how well you communicate desire, how satisfied you feel, how present you are in your own body.
The one I seem to have learned to manage.
You can be a high-functioning, professionally dominant woman with genuinely low sexual self-esteem. It happens constantly. It’s the woman who runs the meeting and then goes home and has sex she didn’t really want because saying no felt complicated. It’s the woman who negotiates salary and can’t ask for what she needs in bed.
These are not the same muscle. And you cannot build one by exercising the other.
The only thing that builds sexual self-esteem is sexual experience conscious, chosen, reflected upon.
Which brings us back to the practice.
The Body Is Not a Separate Country
Here’s the angle that almost nobody takes this conversation to:
The confidence we’re building through sexual exploration isn’t just psychological. It’s somatic. It lives in the body.
Women are taught to live from the neck up. To monitor, evaluate, and manage their bodies as objects of perception rather than inhabit them as sources of sensation and information.
Sexual exploration, real, intentional, desire-led exploration forces you back into your body. Not as something to be looked at. As something that knows things.
Your body knows what feels like yes. It knows what feels like a reluctant maybe dressed up as yes. It knows the difference between desire and obligation in a way your mind, trained to rationalise and manage, often doesn’t.
Learning to read that is not a small thing. That’s developing an entirely different intelligence. And women who develop it become significantly harder to gaslight, significantly harder to pressure, significantly more anchored in their own experience of reality.
Because they have a data source that isn’t vulnerable to other people’s narratives.
Their own body told them.
Why Shame Is Structurally Necessary To The System
Slut-shaming is not a cultural accident. It’s not leftover prudishness that will eventually evolve away.
It is a functional mechanism for preventing women from entering the loop.
A woman deep in shame about her desire cannot build sexual self-esteem. She can’t enter the confidence-sex feedback cycle because shame interrupts it at every point. She can’t communicate desire she’s ashamed of. She can’t reflect on experience she’s trying to forget. She can’t build on knowledge she’s decided makes her disgusting.
Shame is the circuit breaker. And it gets installed early, maintained constantly, and reactivated any time a woman gets close to actually knowing herself in this domain.
The practice of slutting it up, consciously, consensually, on your own terms is fundamentally an act of removing the circuit breaker. Experience by experience. Desire by desire. It is refusing to let shame interrupt the loop that builds you.
The Confidence Nobody Can Take From You
Here’s what’s different about confidence built through genuine self-knowledge versus confidence built through achievement or external validation.
- Achievement-based confidence is contingent. You’re only as confident as your last win. Take away the title, the body, the relationship, the approval and it wobbles.
- Body-based, desire-rooted, sexually grounded confidence is different. It’s built on evidence you collected in your own nervous system. Nobody can revise it. Nobody can promote or demote you out of it. It doesn’t depend on whether someone else finds you attractive today.
It’s yours in a way that the other kind fundamentally isn’t.
The women who have this, who have genuinely done the practice, carry something that reads as magnetic, as settled, as unapologetically themselves.
That’s not personality. That’s not luck.
That’s the loop, running.
What Entering The Loop Actually Requires
Not a high body count. Not performance. Not wildness for its own sake.
This:
Choosing experiences from desire rather than obligation. Noticing what your body actually tells you before, during, after. Speaking one true thing about what you want to someone who deserves to hear it. Stopping something that doesn’t feel right and treating that as data, not failure. Reflecting actually sitting with what you learned instead of moving on quickly.
That’s the practice. That’s the entry point.
Every single conscious, consensual, self-directed experience feeds the loop. Every experience that expands your self-knowledge rather than collapses it compounds over time into something that looks, from the outside, like unshakeable confidence.
From the inside it feels like finally knowing who you are.
The Closing Argument
We have spent decades telling women to be more confident while systematically cutting them off from one of the most direct routes to that confidence.
The loop is real. The research is clear. The mechanism makes complete sense.
Self-knowledge builds confidence. Sexual self-knowledge builds sexual confidence. Sexual confidence builds self-esteem. Self-esteem produces more authentic, satisfying experience. Authentic satisfying experience produces more self-knowledge.
Repeat.
The only thing standing between women and that loop is a four-letter word designed specifically to stop them from entering it.
So enter it anyway.
Consciously. Safely. On your own terms.
And then watch what happens to every other area of your life when a woman finally, fully, knows herself.
