Göcek Yacht Charter Guide: Best Bays & Anchorages

The heart of yacht charter in Turkey, Göcek season starts mid-April and lasts till the end of October.

Aside from the standout bays listed below, Göcek has many more to explore. With dozens of coves, the area offers limitless options for yacht charterers.

We’ll start with islands, continue with coves and end with restaurants/beach clubs.

Islands of Göcek Area

• Göcek Island

Göcek Island

It is the closest island to the center, offering crystal-clear waters and a peaceful natural setting. Göcek Island can be the ideal first or last anchorage of your itinerary as it takes only 10 minutes of cruising to reach the town center.

• Yassica (Flat) Islands

Yassica (Flat) Islands

Yassicalar consists of several small islets, the largest of which has a tiny natural lagoon.

Covered with pine and olive trees, the islands are ideal for water sports. They are also great for hiking. Locals set up small stalls selling snacks.

The water around the islands is extremely clear and calm. You can observe marine life with the naked eye or with mask, snorkel, and fins. Activities such as jet-ski, water skiing, and ringo are available upon reservation, even if your yacht doesn’t have water toys onboard.

There are no facilities on these seven small flat islands. The farthest island is particularly popular among families because of its shallow natural pool extending into the sea.

• Tersane (Shipyard) Island

Tersane (Shipyard) Island

Tersane Island is the largest of the Göcek Islands. It was used as a shipyard during Ottoman times, which is how it got its name (“Tersane” means shipyard).

You can see the remains of an old Greek settlement, shipyard structures, and a watchtower. The island was inhabited until the Lausanne Treaty.

Home to many mountain goats, the island also has a restaurant. The island is divided into two main bays: the Winter Harbor and the Summer Harbor. The Winter Harbor side contains more historical ruins.

• Domuz (Pig) Island

Domuz (Pig) Island

Named after the wild boars once living here, Domuz Island also hosts numerous underwater ruins and historical remnants. Because of the fragile ruins near the shore, boats are not allowed to dock directly onto the island.

Owned by the Simavi family, the island’s new name is Hürriyet Island. Its natural and historical beauty makes it one of Göcek’s most remarkable spots.

Coves & Bays of Göcek Area

• Bedri Rahmi Bay

Bedri Rahmi Bay

Originally named Taşyaka, this bay was renamed after the famous Turkish painter Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, who visited the bay in 1974 and created a rock painting — an image that looks like a fish but secretly contains six different animals within the design.

This artwork became the symbol of the bay, making it one of the most iconic stops in Göcek.

You can hike up the path through pine-covered slopes to reach ancient Lycian rock tombs.

There is also a luxury restaurant named Miori in the bay. Since it gets very busy during high season, advance reservations are essential. Note that prices may not be suitable for all budgets.

• Cleopatra Bay (Hammam)

Cleopatra Bay (Hammam)

Cleopatra Bay contains the remains of a bathhouse built during the ancient Lycian period. According to legend, the famous Egyptian queen Cleopatra was gifted this bath during her visit to the Mediterranean coast.

It’s said that the thermal spring in the bay was Cleopatra’s beauty secret and is beneficial for skin conditions. In the early morning, you can see the sand shifting beneath the sunken ruins — evidence of the still-active thermal source.

The areas near the shore are quite deep, and only accessible by boat. Children and inexperienced swimmers should avoid climbing onto the bath ruins due to safety concerns.

After swimming and snorkeling, you can hike the paths surrounded by pine and olive trees.

• Boynuzbükü

Boynuzbükü Bay

Located west of Göcek, Boynuzbükü is a wide bay protected by a natural breakwater, making the water calm and clear. Surrounded by pine and sweetgum trees, it’s great for coastal walks.

There is a restaurant in the bay, and it is one of the few anchorages reachable by car from land.

• Göbün Bay

Göbün Bay

Göbün, one of the furthest bays from Göcek center, is entered through two steep hills. Covered with dense olive and pine trees, it is home to century-old trees.

At the far end of the bay, you can see rock tombs and ancient ruins. For the best views, hike up to the hilltop.

There is also a popular restaurant, especially among foreign sailors.

• Martı Bay (Yavansu)

Martı Bay (Yavansu)

Martı Bay features a wooden pier for mooring. It is named after the taste of the water flowing from the mountains — freshwater that is drinkable only for animals. “Yavansu” literally means “bland water.”

You will find a seagull silhouette carved into the ground near the shore.

• Killebükü

Killebükü

A lesser-known, quiet bay nestled between Boynuzbükü and Taşyaka.

You can explore church ruins and intricately carved stones hidden among pine trees. It’s one of the most peaceful overnight anchorages on your boat rental route.

• Sarsala Bay

Sarsala Bay

Loved by guests who prefer pebbly beaches over sand, Sarsala has a long stone beach and stunning views.

Sarsala is the closest bay to Dalaman Airport and can be accessed by land. Depending on your itinerary, you can end your tour here.

Its sheltered shape allows swimming even in winter months. The bay also has a restaurant and a water-sports center.

• Sıralıbük

Sıralıbük

This crystal-clear bay is where fresh water meets salt water. You may even spot mountain goats drinking by the shore. Due to the rocky bottom, wearing water shoes is recommended.

Known as “Deep Bay” in foreign sources, it is indeed quite deep. It’s also an excellent overnight anchorage during your Göcek yacht holiday.

• Aquarium Bay

Aquarium Bay

Situated between Domuz Island and Tersane Island, Aquarium Bay gets its name from its unbelievably clear, aquarium-like water. With its gentle breeze and scent of pine, it’s an excellent blue-cruise stop.

You can see the seafloor up to 25 meters down and watch the fish from your yacht.

Because it is a stop for daily tour boats, the bay gets crowded and noisy during the day — your captain will plan the best time for visiting.

• Merdivenli (Stair) Bay

Merdivenli (Stair) Bay

Merdivenli Bay is a beautiful blend of sea and nature. Follow the path from the shore up the hill to visit the small village at the top, where you can buy local products.

The bay is named after the historical stone steps found on its shore. Several natural sea caves can also be explored around the area.
