Not as humid. Breezy. Ironed a few things. Ordered drapes from Blair. I can’t afford them, but these look awful. Maybe they will help sell the place. The boy mowed. M. went to Atlantic City.

Wednesday, May 23, 1991

90 degrees. Had hair done. My sister came down. She is lonely. I know how it is. I have the kids. She has no one but the boys and I think they want everything she has.

Saturday, May 26, 1991

92 degrees. Humid. T. brought me ham and lettuce and peppers from his trip to North Carolina. I had a reaction about 8 p.m. M. came in, but I had juice. Got ok, but my hair is a mess.

Thursday, May 30, 1991

Went to doctor. Fine. He said to continue on and check my blood sugar every other day. Come back to see him in 6 to 8 weeks. Blood pressure was 158/70. He seemed pleased.

Friday, May 31, 1991

92 degrees. Breezy. Still hot but not like other days. Less humidity. Washed. Cleaned. J2 brought me pears and lettuce. J&P called. They will not be down tomorrow. She is tired from the heat. S. started working at the hospital again.

My grandmother’s diabetic reactions seem to be increasing in frequency again. I’m surprised her doctor thought everything was fine, especially that blood pressure. Maybe that was considered fine in the 1990s? I know my doctor, today, would call that high. Again, she’s talking about selling her house. That seems to be on her mind a lot. She does admit that, even though she is lonely, she’s not as “bad off” as her sister, who just has two fostered boys who, according to my grandmother, are waiting for her to die so that they can get “everything.” If that is true, they will be waiting a long time for that.
