Blue whale games are now the talk of the town once again, after the recent Ghaziabad teen’s death. Korean Love games or blue whale and blackout challenges may not be a familiar name to many millennials, but now they are the most used Gen Z terms on the internet.

So what are they? — They are task-based, more specifically, challenge-based games. After downloading, one needs to complete the task given to them online. This game acts like a slow trap. At the beginning, it starts from some stupid and harmless challenges and then slowly it moves towards something drastic.

It gives you some daily missions which the participant needs to complete within the day.

Over time, the gamers feel like they are the ‘chosen ones’ for a secret mission. And an unseen handler is continuously watching their moves and controlling them.

The extra scary part is that the kid gets so attached to that unseen person emotionally that they go out of their way to complete the challenge.

They cut off from the real world to plunge completely into this ethereal mission.

Three girls from ghaziabad aged 16,14 and 12 respectively are found dead in the Lori area, Ghaziabad and the cause of their death is suspected to be ‘these games’.

Now the question is, how safe is the internet for kids? How vulnerable are they to children? Safeguarding kids from internet exposure is not optional anymore. The government needs to implement a digital gatekeeping model for kids asap.
