Postpartum Mom’s Heart
Postpartum Mom’s Heart
Midnight feeds in dim-lit glow,
My body sore from birth’s hard throw.
Your small weight heals what broke apart,
You tiny breaths mend my weary heart.
Tears trace paths down cheeks still soft,
Fumbled burp cloths, yawns aloft.
I trace your face, so new, so MINE.
Spilled milk bonds us, divine.
No maps for this, just love’s raw art,
Postpartum nights remake my start.
You sleep safe on my rumpled bed,
We rise messy, alive, well-fed –
Your smile worth it all, my Little Heart.
