More than just books

“Reading makes me feel.”. One of my favorite quotes, found in a book. I had grown up with books. When I was a little girl, my parents had read to me at bed time every single night. First, it was all about princesses and fairy tailes, now I read rom-coms and thrillers. But why did it stick with me?

Books are a world that you’ll never be able to go to. You’ll never meet the characters, never see their faces, never visit their school. It’s all fiction, until it feels like you’re being part of the story. You’re just completely blend in, focusing on the book. It’s like you can feel the emotions, hear the words. Often I’m sad because I know I’ll never get to meet the persons. It’s like losing a friend, but this friend never really existed in real life. JI like that feeling of escaping the real world. Reading makes me forget my own life for some time. It makes me sob, it makes me scream, it makes my heart burst. Someone once said, that if you don’t like reading, you haven’t found the right book yet. I do relate to that. There are books that you don’t want to end. Books in which I count my pages just to be sure I have enough left. Books where I feel like I’m leaving something behind when I close it.

I don’t remember every single book I have ever read. There are books where I forgot the whole storyline within a few weeks. There are books where I don’t remember the names of the main characters. But still, they bought me joy. Some books I still remember. I don’t know about the whole book, but there is just something from it, that sticks with me. A lesson, a quote, a character. And I’m thankful to have that.

I think it’s actually shocking how pages filled with words can turn into something so meaningful. Into another universe full of life. That’s also why I like writing. There is so much emotion and moments in these phrases. While reading, I have a whole szene in my head. I always imagine the whole story, how the characters would behave, how the environment works, how the school sounds and how the gun shoots. I like that. I like this freedom to chose how you want that story to look like. It’s like a second home for a while.
