Why Feeling Stuck Is The Most Important Part Of Your Journey

Ever heard of The Slingshot Effect?

You might think I’m crazy for saying this.

If you’re feeling stuck right now… it’s the best place you can be.

What?! How can you say that? It feels terrible!

I’ve come to realize being stuck, stagnant, or hesitant is better than running full throttle toward something that doesn’t feel right, something you don’t want in the end.

Realized through experience. That first job that I thought was the end-all-be-all (I was naïve).

The guy that I was desperately trying to impress (who turned out to be a dismissive avoidant).

My husband and I building our first house to keep up with the Jones’ (in over our heads).

Sometimes we act before we think.

Sometimes we launch before we’re aligned.

Sometimes our ego screams at us to do something (anything!) because it fears falling behind.

And the end result doesn’t always turn out for our best benefit.

The opposite of uninhibited action (motion with your hair on fire) is motionlessness — cemented to the floor, feeling stuck in your current reality.

You might be looking for the next step on your path, but you’re blank. You might try to move, or plan to make a move, but something within is resisting. And you can’t. Whatever idea is there, it fizzles and fades.

And this is why a sense of stuck-ness is a great place to be! It means you are on the verge of alignment with the right path and building the energy you need to go the distance.

Feeling stuck isn’t a dead end. What if it’s a state of compression?

Follow me as I paint this picture…

The Slingshot Effect

Think about how a slingshot works.

To propel a stone forward with power, precision and distance, you cannot push it. Pushing is low velocity; it only moves the stone a short distance with a lot of effort.

To launch the stone, you place it in the cradle of a slingshot and pull backwards.

The further you want the stone to go, the more tension you apply. You stre-e-e-tch the band until it’s tight.

Picture it… In that moment, the stone is technically stuck, isn’t it? It isn’t moving toward the target. In fact, it’s further from the target!

When we feel stuck, we think we’re standing still, or moving in the opposite direction of where we want to go. It’s here that we are being pulled back into a launch position by God, the Universe, Source (whatever you call your higher power).

We’re being transitioned into a state of potential energy.

If we were to launch without tension, we wouldn’t have the momentum to clear the obstacles, to go the distance on our new path. The stuck feelings are ensuring we have the fire power required to start and finish our journey.

That’s exciting!

What Compression Feels Like

Because compression is an energy event, you not only think you’re stuck, but you feel it in your body too.

The weight of resistance: A pull-back feels heavy, sluggish. You might feel fatigue, lethargy or a lack of interest in things you used to like. This is the tension of the band stretching.

The internal quickening: Even though you aren’t moving externally yet, you feel a vibration inside. You might have bursts of anxiety or restlessness. The nervous system reacts to the intense energy of the future reality you are being lined up with.

The ego flare-up: The ego-mind does not like tension. It thinks you have to be moving all the time, not standing still. It starts comparing your lack of motion to others in motion. (See what Jane is doing? You need to be more like Jane…)

It wants to force a release of the tension before you’re ready, which is why we panic-pivot and end up running fast and furious toward things that won’t make us happy.

And wasting a lot of energy that could be used for those things that would.

Stuck is the Most Important Part of the Journey!

We misunderstand feeling stuck. We immediately want to solve the problem and get out of it. But it’s not a problem (unless we believe it to be one); it’s a signal.

And when you feel the compression, understand exactly what’s going on.

Clearing Ghost Frequencies

The pull-back on your slingshot strips away the non-essentials. I call these ghost frequencies. Tension forces you to drop past thoughts, beliefs, desires that don’t fit anymore so you can launch as a lighter, more authentic version of yourself.

The need to maintain outward pretense drops away — like roles you played for others, people-pleasing, should obligations, etc. Those things are too heavy for the cradle of the slingshot.

Focusing Your Aim

A slingshot is both power and precision. When you’re in pull-back mode, you’re forced to look at your life with a level of clarity that’s not possible when you’re in motion. Your eyes are opened to what’s important to you. Those values and desires focus your aim.

Building the Fire

Compression builds desire, motivation, the fire. That restlessness you feel? That’s the spark. Allow this friction to ignite a flame of inspiration (don’t water it down bc it’s uncomfortable).

What to Do When You’re Stretched

Now that we know what’s really happening when we feel stuck, what can we do to help ourselves when we feel it?

Believe me, the temptation will be to struggle against it. And I know what happens personally — you move in the wrong direction and work really hard at it. (Remember the dismissive avoidant boyfriend? Yeah, that.)

Stop struggling and lean in.

I know it can be tough. Your ego says No-o-o! and it can be loud.

Accept that you’re in pull-back mode. Use the tight energy to ask yourself, “What is this tension showing me?”

When you stop resisting, the energy relaxes. You shift from panic to expectation.

To stop resisting, breathe… consciously.

It’s amazing how this works. Try a 4–4–8–4 pattern: inhale 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds, slowly exhale 8 seconds, and hold 4 seconds.

Inspiration literally means “to breathe into.” You can breathe yourself into inspiration and alignment.

Alignment feels like resonance. And the slingshot won’t launch without it. Clarity, desire, and anticipation will begin to take form in your mind and heart.

I’ve noticed the Universe will send tiny nudges before a big launch. Stirring up curiosity. Simple things, like noticing a course offering on your social media feed, or the thought to call an old friend.

Follow them! Alignments are taking place.

Releasing Tension into Momentum

When the time is right, the tension will reach its peak, and it will be released. You can’t force it. Or make it come any faster.

It feels like a click in your spirit. I don’t know how else to describe it. Where everything is lined up and all the internal and external frequencies match.

As you’re moving forward, it feels almost effortless. Yes, effort is still required, but it won’t be hard work, hyped-up motivation, or energy-draining.

You’ll make decisions and take action from a clear vision and an intuitive knowing that you never had before.

You’ll move further in six months than you did in the previous six years. And you will love every minute of it!

Trust the Process

If you feel stuck today, it’s the best place you can be. You’re in the most important part of your journey.

Take a deep breath right now and acknowledge the power you’re currently holding.

You’re in the cradle of the slingshot.

The chapter ahead of you is beautiful… and open for you. It requires a level of power and focus that the old version of you didn’t have.

Your stuck-ness is a time of training, preparation, and energy-building. When you accept it, I guarantee when you finally fly, you will reach heights and distances you only dreamed of.

Are you ready to stop struggling against the tension and start using it to your benefit?
