Not someone’s admiration. Not someone’s curiosity. Not someone’s passing fascination.
sometimes i wonder what it’s like to be someone’s worth the risk

Not someone’s admiration. Not someone’s curiosity. Not someone’s passing fascination.
Someone’s risk.
I’ve been appreciated before. People have praised my work, celebrated my achievements, complimented my appearance. I’ve heard the words.
“You’re amazing.” “You’re attractive.” “You’re different.” “Anyone would be lucky to have you.”
The strange thing about compliments is that they can fill a room and still leave a person feeling empty.
Because admiration and love are not the same language.
Admiration stands at the shore and marvels at the ocean. Love builds a boat and sails anyway.
And so, I found myself wondering why people could like me from a distance yet never stay long enough to learn the storms beneath my surface.
Maybe that’s what hurts.
Not the absence of attention.
The absence of choice.
To be chosen despite inconvenience. To be chosen despite uncertainty. To be chosen when there is no guarantee of a happy ending.
I’ve met people who liked the way I smiled, but not enough to stay when life became difficult. People who loved my light but disappeared the moment they encountered my shadows. People who held my hand while the road was easy, yet let go when it began to climb.
And every departure left behind the same quiet question:
“What is so difficult about choosing me?”
Sometimes I would look at others and see someone fighting impossible odds just to be with the person they love. Crossing oceans. Waiting years. Forgiving mistakes. Taking chances.
And I wondered what it must feel like to inspire that kind of courage in someone.
To have a person look at all the reasons they could leave and decide to stay.
To have someone gamble their certainty for the possibility of you.
The truth is, being admired can be lonely.
Because people often love the parts of you that are easy to consume.
Your beauty. Your intelligence. Your success.
But love — the real kind — asks a person to remain after the novelty has faded.
And not everyone is brave enough for that.
So maybe the question was never:
“Why does nobody take a risk in loving me?”
Maybe the question is:
“Why do I keep measuring my worth by the courage of people who were never brave enough to love deeply?”
Because someone’s inability to choose you is not proof that you are unworthy of being chosen.
Some people meet a treasure and still walk away because carrying it requires effort.
Some people reach the shore of something beautiful and turn back because they fear the waves.
And some people lose the best thing that could have happened to them simply because they were too afraid to risk their comfort.
One day, perhaps, someone will arrive who understands that love is not certainty.
It is risk.
And they will look at your flaws, your fears, your complicated heart, your unfinished story —
and decide that the possibility of losing you is far more frightening than the risk of loving you.
Until then, remember this:
Being desired is common. Being chosen is rare.
Many people will admire the stars. Few will stay awake long enough to learn their constellations.
The loneliest feeling is not being unloved; it is being liked by everyone and chosen by no one.
Some hearts are not abandoned because they are hard to love, but because they require courage.
One day, someone will call you worth the risk, and all the people who hesitated will become proof that they were never worthy of the chance.
