Something to chew on
I wrote this poem years back for some contest or another, and then completely forgot about it until last year when I was hunting through my archives for something else.
So I threw it up on my Patreon (which, yes, is still going — most of the poems there are paywalled, but I have a couple things up there that are free to read) and then….
promptly forgot it again until tonight, after I posted something up on Patreon and then wanted to check something in THOSE archives.
I wouldn’t exactly rank it among my better works — as demonstrated by the fact that I keep forgetting it. Still. To ensure that this silly little thing isn’t lost yet AGAIN, here you go:
SOMETHING TO CHEW ON
I can see them.
In the yard.
In the trees.
Squirrels.
They raise miniature AK-47s.
Please tell me that’s Photoshopped.
pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease
Ouch.
Ok. Not Photoshopped.
I always knew they were coming for us.
But did anyone believe me?
I warned them.
I pointed to the stories.
They eat power lines, I said. They set cars on fire.
They’re plotting.
They’re squirrels.
And everyone else said
They’re so cute!
I’m bleeding. Weaponless.
They’re moving forward, tiny claws extended….
tails waving in the air.
Another shot. The window is shattered.
They scurry forward, little guns blasting
tat tat tat
They leap for my chest.
Maybe they agree I’m nuts.
