I’m a Holistic Health Coach and I Just Ate a Bag of Potato Chips. Here’s Why I Don’t Feel Guilty.
True wellness isn’t about rigid perfection. It’s about balance, bio-individuality, and listening to your body without shame.
I’m a Holistic Health Coach and I Just Ate a Bag of Potato Chips. Here’s Why I Don’t Feel Guilty.
True wellness isn’t about rigid perfection. It’s about balance, bio-individuality, and listening to your body without shame.
If you open Instagram today, you’ll see an endless stream of «perfect» wellness influencers. They wake up at 5 AM, drink green juice, meditate for two hours, and eat nothing but organic kale and wild salmon.
But let’s be honest. Real life doesn’t look like an Instagram reel.
Yesterday was a chaotic Tuesday. I spent hours analyzing nutritional protocols, practicing Qigong, and working on my health education materials. By the evening, my brain was fried, and my energy was low. Do you know what I did? I went to the kitchen, opened a big bag of salty, crunchy potato chips, and ate them. All of them.
As a trained nutritionist, sexologist, and lifelong athlete, am I supposed to feel ashamed?
Absolutely not. And here is why.
- The Myth of the Perfect Diet
Modern wellness culture has created a dangerous condition called orthorexia – an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating. When we label foods as «good» or «bad,» we create a psychological trap. If you eat a «bad» food, you feel like a «bad» person. This guilt causes stress, and stress raises cortisol. Ironically, high cortisol causes more harm to your metabolism than a single bag of chips ever could.
- The Holistic Connection: Nutrition and Energy Flow
In Eastern practices like Qigong, which I practice and study, health is about the free flow of energy (Qi). When you deny yourself every pleasure, your energy stagnates. Sometimes, a craving for something salty and crunchy isn’t just «lack of willpower.» It can be your body asking for quick sodium after a heavy workout, or your nervous system looking for a grounding texture to relieve mental stress.
True holistic health coaching means looking at the whole picture. How does your diet affect your mental health? How does your physical movement affect your libido and hormonal balance?
- Living in the 80/20 Rule
I choose to live by the 80/20 rule. Eighty percent of the time, I fuel my body with nutrient-dense, whole foods that support my athletic performance and health. The other twenty percent? I allow myself to be human. I eat the chips. I enjoy the moment.
We need to remove the shame from wellness. You can study preventive science, love sports, practice energy work, and still enjoy comfort food occasionally. That is not failure; that is balance.
Thank you for reading the very first article of this newsletter! In the coming weeks, I’ll be diving deep into the intersections of nutrition, sports performance, sexology, and Qigong – unfiltered and science-backed.
