For The Children

Explaining why, if you love children, some kind of global government is inevitable

The #1 desire of all humans, arguably, is to make the world better for the children. If it was just for ourselves, who cares. But for the children, we want to make a better world. We want them to have a better life than we did.

And by cooperating together, in ever greater numbers, humans have successfully improved the lot of their children, from way back in the cave man days to 2026.

So if all humans on the globe united and worked together, that would give us the most power to do the most good for the children.

So some type of global government is inevitable, if it’s true that people care first and foremost about their children. Because if you care about the children, you will put aside your differences and work together for the greater good of us all.

Which brings us to the central problem of all humans. We are forced to work together in large numbers by our love for our children. Yet because of our finiteness (we are computationally bounded) we can only personally know about 150 people. So if we are going to cooperate with people in the millions and billions, it has to be not based on everybody knowing everybody else.

But, for most of human existence, that’s exactly where we grew up. We grew up in bands of 150 or less where everybody knew everybody else. Beyond 150, it’s not that easy to trust people.

Yet trust people we must, if we are to make the world better for the children.

You can study up on all the different ways we’ve learned to unite together in groups beyond 150: religions, national stories, judicial systems, political systems, etc.

But just one other thing to mention. In a group of 150, where everybody knows everybody else, we still fight! We still disagree. It’s devilishly hard for 150 to all get along. So it’s even harder for two groups of 150 to get along. First, they are fighting among themselves. Then they are fighting each other.

So life presents us with a dilemma. It would be so much easier to retreat behind my walls and live my life out. But that would do nothing to leave the planet in better shape for the children.

So for the children, no matter our age, we have to get off our asses and do something.

And we have to cooperate, even if we have different political and religious beliefs. Because we all love the children.
