Q&A: Fishbone’s “Spacey T” Tracey Singleton — New Album, New Tour

Formed in Los Angeles in 1979, **Fishbone* quickly earned a reputation for their genre-blending style, mixing funk, ska, punk, rock, and soul into a high-energy explosion of sound. With iconic releases like Truth & Soul, Reality Of My Surroundings, and Give A Monkey A Brain…*, the band helped pave the way for countless alt-funk and ska-punk acts over the past four decades. Known for their electric live shows, Fishbone remains as vital as ever in 2025.

The group’s latest release, Stockholm Syndrome, sees Fishbone returning to form while pushing their sonic boundaries further. The album features blistering instrumentation, social commentary, and the irreverent energy fans have come to love. “Last Call In America,” co-written by original members Christopher Dowd and Walter “Dirty Walt” Kibby, features the legendary George Clinton. Another notable track is “Racist Piece of S*” — a.k.a. “[RxPxOxS”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOf7-riDwDM&pp=0gcJCdgAo7VqN5tD)* — as originally released in November 2024. Stockholm Syndrome* was produced by Fishbone, Aryon Davis and Chris McGrew, with mixing by Cameron Webb. The album’s artwork was crafted by renowned artist Chris Shary, and its CD version includes a bonus track titled “My God Is Better Than You’re Gawd.”

To celebrate this new release, Fishbone is now on the road on a nationwide tour alongside **Less Than Jake**, The Suicide Machines and Bite Me Bambi — including a gig next week at Wantagh, New York venue Mulcahy’s — drawing packed crowds and new generations of fans alike. The current Fishbone lineup also includes original member Angelo Moore and returning guitarist Spacey T (Tracey Singleton). This revitalized lineup of Fishbone has undoubtedly brought new life to the band’s already-legendary legacy, both in the studio and on the road.

Spacey T’s history in music is as groundbreaking as it is diverse. As a founding member of Sound Barrier — one of the first all-Black heavy metal bands — he helped break racial barriers in the rock world. He also played with Mother’s Finest, has collaborated with Talib Kweli, leads **the heavy, groove-laden “power duo” Praise The Dead**, and mentors youth through the L.A.C.E.R. After-School Rock Band Project. His eclectic background and relentless creativity continue to influence younger generations of musicians.
