Imagine the Press Release — Before Writing a Single Line of Code

I’ve long admired Jeff Bezos’ famous PR/FAQ method for product development. The concept is elegant and powerful: before building anything, write a press release and FAQ that envision what the final product will be — and how it will change the world.

This exercise forces you to clearly define the customer problem, your solution, and why it matters. It becomes the team’s north star, aligning engineers, product managers, and business folks around a shared vision.

In late 2023, I had identified the problem I wanted to solve but was still a solo founder — building the business model, planning personal finances, and plotting a fundraising strategy. By June 2024, after raising pre-seed funding and assembling a co-founder and engineering team, I sat down and wrote the PR/FAQ for what would become **DataIAm** — an AI-powered data loader designed specifically for Salesforce users.

At that point, no code had been written. The PR described a product that would save Salesforce Admins and data professionals countless hours of tedious manual cleanup by automatically fixing messy, broken data — and loading it cleanly into Salesforce.

Fast forward to February 24, 2025: DataIAm officially launched.

Here’s a snippet from that original press release:

“DataIAm brings AI intelligence to the data loading process — automatically detecting common issues, suggesting intelligent fixes, and ensuring clean data is loaded into Salesforce.”

For years, Salesforce Admins have struggled with data loaders that simply load data, forcing them to wrestle with broken CSVs and messy spreadsheets before importing. DataIAm flips that script: just upload your messy CSV, and the AI fixes it — and loads it for you.

This vision wasn’t wishful thinking. It was shaped by my 9+ years leading product at Salesforce and 20 years building data platforms. I knew firsthand how painful data prep is — and how valuable a smart assistant could be.

The early feedback has been encouraging:

“That sounds like a magic spell for data loader tasks!”

Another Admin said:

“With its robust AI assistance, we expect minimal learning curve, allowing users to get up to speed immediately.”

But the journey is only beginning. Salesforce is just the first ecosystem on our roadmap. Next up: AI-powered data loaders for ServiceNow, NetSuite, Workday, and more.

Writing the PR/FAQ helped me clarify the vision, align the team, and stay laser-focused on what matters most: empowering users with AI that truly helps them work smarter — not harder.
