In this 200-word drabble, we must include the following: I swore I saw my grandfather clock smile.

Grandpa loved the clock, as did his father before him.

When he died, I was surprised to find he’d left his much-loved ornate clock to me, given my two elder siblings had declared their hatred of antiques.

As Grandpa’s lawyer read out the will, he looked straight at me, acknowledging that a young adult such as myself might not see worth in an aged clock.

Still, the inheritance came with a letter that might make me happy, adding that before I could receive the clock as mine, I must first read the letter.

James,

I struggle to know what to say regarding the clock. Times have changed. The bottom has dropped out of the market, but you are young and have a whole life ahead of you.

You can either sell in today’s market or wait. This is my suggestion: have it valued first by experts at the Antiques Road Show.
