Proxmox Cluster with SBC Raspberry Pi as Quorum Device

Adding SBC Raspberry Pi device as Quorum Device to Proxmox Cluster. This is to accommodate limited machines running Proxmox Cluster, e.g. cluster with 2 mini pc machines and 1 SBC Raspberry PI. Such environment is not recommended and would expect more efforts and times to maintain the environment. Recommended environment is minimum 3 machine running Proxmox Cluster.

Prerequisite : Proxmox Cluster Setup

  • Add Proxmox hostnames to /etc/hosts . Adding Raspberry Pi hostname is optional.

  • Node 1 : Create Cluster via Proxmox GUI Cluster name: pve-cluster (name yourself) Cluster network: recommend to choose separate (dedicated) network for cluster
  • Retrieve Cluster Information Datacenter — Cluster -> Join Information -> Copy Information
  • Node 2 : Join Cluster Join Cluster : Paste Cluster Information Cluster network: choose the network similar during cluster creation
  • Cluster Information Figure

  • Check Cluster Status Expected vote is 3, therefore status would display as not Quorum yet.

Adding SBC Raspberry Pi 2 Model B as Quorum Device

  • SBC Raspberry Pi : Update package
rpi# apt update
rpi# apt upgrade
  • SBC Raspberry Pi : Install Corosync
rpi# apt install corosync-qnetd
  • SBC Raspberry Pi : Enable & Start Corosync
rpi# systemctl enable corosync-qnetd
rpi# systemctl start corosync-qnetd
  • SBC Raspberry Pi : Check Corosync status
rpi# ss -lntp | grep qnetd
rpi# systemctl status corosync-qnetd
rpi# journalctl -u corosync-qnetd
  • Add Quorum device to the Cluster
pvemini01# pvecm qdevice setup <QDEVICE-IP> # change qdevice-ip with raspberry pi device
  • Check Cluster Status New quorum device is added as Qdevice and Quorate is Yes
pvemini01# pvecm status
