Substrate Ecosystem Newsletter — June Issue

Substrate Monthly — Ecosystem Technical Newsletter, produced by OneBlock+, compiles and organizes technical progress across the Substrate ecosystem. Each issue highlights key product updates, code commits, releases, community discussions, technical documentation, and ecosystem growth — making it easier for you to stay on top of what’s happening in the Substrate world.

The following is the June edition. Enjoy the read!

DeFi

Acala Network

Acala is building an automated yield-capturing sustainable liquidity layer for Web3 finance, aiming to become the HyFi (DeFi+CeFi) infrastructure for crypto and real-world assets. Acala’s multi-chain asset hub UAH (Universal Asset Hub) provides multi-chain liquid staking (LST) protocols, such as LDOT with synthetic assets tDOT (DOT — LDOT), AMM, and highly compatible and customizable EVM+ (based on Substrate). The Acala network’s security is supported by the Polkadot relay chain and serves as a liquidity gateway for Polkadot parachains and L1/L2 blockchains.

Bifrost

Bifrost is a modular Appchain providing liquid staking services for all blockchains, built on Substrate, offering secure, flexible, stable, and highly liquid staking and DeFi multiple yields for staking users across multiple blockchains through decentralized cross-chain interoperability.

I. Technical Solution Discussions

Runtime 19001

  • Adapted to parse Hyperbridge messages, enabling heterogeneous chain SLPx contract minting to Bifrost.

Runtime 20000

  • Support for cross-chain transfers through AssetHub
  • vTokenVoting module adds support for vote delegation mechanism
  • vToken interest rate model decoupled from vToken itself, improving scalability
  • SLPx module supports assets on AssetHub

Storage

CESS

Cumulus Encrypted Storage System (CESS) is a high-speed, secure, scalable smart contract-compatible decentralized cloud storage network infrastructure developed based on Substrate. It is the first decentralized distributed cloud storage network supporting large-scale enterprise-level commercial applications. It consists of a four-layer network architecture: blockchain, storage network, content distribution network, and application layer. CESS adopts a random selection rotating consensus node mechanism to coordinate network resources and load, and ensures data integrity, security, traceability, and privacy through mechanisms such as multi-replica recoverable storage proof (PoDR²), multi-type data rights confirmation (MDRC), and decentralized proxy re-encryption. CESS will support WASM and be compatible with EVM smart contracts to build secure and efficient decentralized storage networks for Web3 and large commercial applications.

I. Important Commits, Modifications and Releases
