🧐 What Is a Plural?

A plural means more than one.

We use plurals when we talk about two or more things.

✅ Most Words → Add -s

This is the easiest rule.

• One apple → two apples

• One boy → three boys

• One cat → five cats

🧼 Words Ending in -h, -s, or -x → Add -es

If a word ends in -h, -s, or -x, we add -es.

• brush → brushes

• bus → buses

• box → boxes

🔤 Words Ending in a Consonant + Y → Change Y to -ies

If the y comes after a consonant, change y to -ies.

• fly → flies

• city → cities

But if the y comes after a vowel, just add -s:

• boy → boys

• toy → toys

➡️ Change F to V and Add -es

• knife → knives

• half → halves

• scarf → scarves

⚠️ But some just add -s:

• belief → beliefs

• chief → chiefs

🥁 Words Ending in O

Some add -s, and some add -es.

These words are different. You just have to remember them.

• man → men

• woman → women

• mouse → mice
