But First, Some Firsts!

It’s time to announce the winners for Contest #4, Where Does Time Go?

But before I announce the results: I’d like to share some interesting facts about the balloting:

This is the first time we’ve ever received nine ballots. (The previous record was eight, for contest #3.)

First time that two of the highest-ranked entries were poems. (And one of those was song lyrics!) [And the third was very poetic as well, though it wasn’t a poem.)

For the first time ever, each of the entries was mentioned on at least two ballots. The two top vote-getters were mentioned on four each, and the third place entry was mentioned on three.

One final ‘First,’ before we move on to slightly less original occurrences: Of the ten entries, half of them came in during the first two days of the contest! (I think the contestants liked the topic.) [On the other hand, the final three all came in the last possible week!]

For the second time ever, we had at least one voter who was not a participant in the contest. (We need to see a whole lot more of that sort of stat in the future, please!)

Also for only the second time, the number of entries (ten) outnumbered the ballots (nine). [That kind of imbalance had occurred in the very first contest as well, when there were six entries and five ballots.]

There were lots of other interesting facts that I could throw at you, but I fear I’ve stalled long enough. It’s time to do that ‘Ta-Dah!’ thing.

In third place, with eleven points, is Sherry Wendt, with her poem (and song lyric) ‘It’s Today.’

In second place, with fourteen points, is ‘When Time Froze Behind Locked Doors,’ by Swati Roshan Patil.

And, finally, the number one point-getter, with fifteen of them, is Anaelle’s ‘What Yesterday Knew.’

As you can see, it was tight. (As it seems usually to be.)

Congratulations to all three winneers, and to everyone who entered. There was an incredible variety of responses to the topic, with some entrants taking the topic question quite literally, and others more symbolically. But all beautifully.

Having covered the results of #4, it’s now time to turn our attention for a moment to #5, for which we have five entries so far. (If I’ve missed yours, please remind me.)

The topic is: What is our Seventh Sense? The deadline for entry is midnight October 12, which happens to fall on a Sunday. (So if you really have to wait that long to get yours in, you have all weekend that week to do it.)
