The Jude and 1 John use Cain as a powerful symbol for two different but related spiritual failures: rebellion against God and hatred towards others.

· 1 John 3:12 (The "Why"): This verse explains Cain's motive. He murdered Abel not due to a sudden quarrel, but because his own deeds were evil while his brother's were righteous. Cain’s unrepentant heart felt exposed and envious of Abel's faith, and that jealousy boiled over into murder. · Jude 1:11 (The "Way"): Jude uses "the way of Cain" to describe a pattern of behavior . It refers to people who reject God's authority, follow their own selfish desires, and harbor resentment against the faithful, ultimately destroying themselves spiritually.

💡 Cain as a Warning

In both letters, Cain serves as a warning to believers:

· A Warning Against Hatred: John argues that hatred makes us like Cain, who "belonged to the evil one". He states that everyone who hates a brother is a "murderer" at heart. · A Warning Against Rebellion: Jude warns that just as Cain went his own way instead of God’s, false teachers were repeating that same error in the early church.
