Sea On My Scars

How do I tell the vast and restless sea that I am drowning here upon the shore? No heavy wave has come to swallow me, no ocean current drags me to the floor.

I gasp beneath a weightless sky, choke on air that tastes like sea. While all around me, busy life goes by, unaware of the quiet watch I keep.

I press my palms into cold sand and count the hours like empty shells, Each one a quiet prison where my silence dwells.

Waves erase my footprints, softening sand where sorrow sleeps, They hide each mark I trusted, tucking every small thing deep.

I keep my secrets folded where the shoreline wears them thin, Maybe the sea will keep them safe or maybe give them back again.
