Root & Staff Accounts Bridging Web2 and Web3

In Web3 marketplaces, zkLogin has become a common authentication model. By design, it enforces a strict one-account–one-wallet relationship, giving each account a clear and auditable ownership model.

This works well at the protocol level, but real-world seller operations do not always follow the same assumption.

From feedback across multiple sellers, we found that enterprise sellers operate very differently from individual sellers. In Web2 environments, a single account rarely handles everything. Listing management, customer communication, and delivery are often handled by different people at different times.

The problem is that in a Web3 marketplace like OVERTAKE, we cannot simply ask teams to share a wallet or a single login. Doing so would weaken security and directly break the core assumptions of zkLogin.

To solve this, we are designing a Root & Staff account model that preserves zkLogin while supporting team-based seller operations.

At the core of this approach is an account hierarchy.

The Root (Owner) account remains the sole zkLogin-authenticated account and the only entity that owns the wallet and performs on-chain, signature-required actions.

Staff accounts are linked to the Root account and authenticate independently via email. They do not own wallets and cannot perform signing actions, but they can assist with scoped seller operations such as chat, order handling, and delivery workflows.

This allows seller teams to collaborate safely, working asynchronously and in parallel, without sharing wallets or compromising account ownership.

The Root & Staff account model is currently under active development and has not been released yet.

Our goal is to support enterprise seller workflows while keeping OVERTAKE’s security model and zkLogin foundations intact.
