At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: ‘I have to work — as a human being. What do I have to complain of, if I’m going to do what I was brought into the world to do? Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?- Marcus Aurelius
Our nutrition should follow accurate proportions of at least 6–8 food groups to be included in our daily diet.
Our sleep should also be 6–8 hours daily.
Our work should be only 8 hours a day as a maximum limit.
And for leisure, reading, food, and ablutions, a variety can be tried to prevent monotony.
But leisure and food must happen during the same hours you allocate for them every day.
It is better to sleep and wake up at fixed hours every day.
These are some time-tested rules to live with values and productivity such that we save time and resources for any kind of life challenge if it ever appears due to external or internal triggers.
Most people who practice a regimen or scheduled living tackle things easily and come out smoothly from any kind of chaotic rut because of timeliness in doing routine work and saved time utilized for sudden emergencies.
They end up choosing or making decisions that would cause less trouble to themselves and others while taking care of their needs and priorities, of which health is one.
When we are well-prepared, we feel healthier and more equipped to bring back health after little extremes and deviations from a steady state of our mind-body balance.
Well-prepared people are those who never break away from routine activities that create a background for a relaxed, productive, calm, and spiritual mindset that helps a person to achieve good things in life, like health, education, a pious partner, time for travel and enjoyment, sports, and personal development, as examples.
A regimen living is intelligent living. It is most sought for health and longevity. If you routinely take care of your body and mind, you remain healthy and thus survive all odds and seldom lose your money and resources.
If you are healthier, you will maintain healthy relationships with other people and manage your time better. This will raise your self-esteem and prepare you for maximum productivity at all times, while balancing leisure activities that help you rejuvenate.
For example, people who adhere to medicines due to diabetes are those who change their lifestyle according to the disease and have called it "diabetic living." They accept that they have to consume the same things and become vigilant about the measurements of their body to prevent aggravation of their disease and know that they cannot let themselves loose as far as discipline is concerned. They will thus prevent complicated diabetes and remain healthy for very long into their old age.
It isn’t tiresome or boring to have a routine. All great people achieve better self-esteem by just reaching for their desk at the same time every day or driving to work regularly at a similar time.
The benefits of such a lifestyle are not so common among people in their late 20s to early 30s. While the majority of this age group doesn’t understand discipline, there are a few who make it through the day with discipline and end up more creative and successful in older years of life.
Recently, the state where I work released a notice about wearing uniforms for students going to university courses. Just by reducing the variety of clothes, other than about expenses or equality of caste and class, a uniform begets discipline; the students get into the mode of achieving a lesson from their day at the university. It calms them and enables them to get into the funk of a purposeful student life.
My favorite perfume brand is Ralph Lauren. I used it when I could afford it for almost 10 consecutive years. I still miss the Glamorous (back in 2001) and the Romance because the fragrance was aptly woody and spicy, with a floral note.
*Ralph Lauren- “A lot of hard work is hidden behind nice things.” He transitioned from a tie salesman in a tiny Empire State Building drawer to building a multibillion-dollar empire through a blend of visionary imagination and daily perseverance.*
He strictly enjoys before every fashion exhibition displaying his talent, which is usually a success because he was working on that apparel with deep creative effort, delegating his mind for a boring routine full of dedicated hard work.
Each new product reflects his taste and is a part of the legacy of the previous creative work. This continuity makes something very ordinary into an extraordinary mix of taste and class.
The continuity from a mediocre performer to a sensation isn’t just luck. The art speaks of itself. Some people learn the art early, while for others, it takes time to click.
Personal development has certain prerequisites. A ballerina practices her legs and feet for at least 5–6 years to become perfect at it, despite her hidden talent. We cannot have some other way for certain things.
In my case, unless I could read books, treat patients, and guide students, my development as a healthcare professional was incomplete. No one can imagine what I did night and day to become an average doctor in my country, still trying hard to excel in my subject in order to incorporate much more evidence-based messages in my lectures and teaching activities.
I cannot become a very lucky person like my favorites, but I have worked hard, and that gives me confidence, and it was all through managing a routine and continuing a regimen living for almost 10 years now beyond the Ralph Lauren times of my life when my father used to pay for my expenses.
And that’s the reason for my boosted self-esteem, or anybody else's similar to me: the hard work and not the money, the experiences of both toiling in the sun and sitting in an air-conditioned room to write.
