The College Football Transfer Portal Has Hurt High School Football

The transfer portal has flipped college football upside down, but it also has an impact on High School players as well. Some coaches I’ve talked to have told me since the transfer portal was put in, they have less and less contact from scouts and college coaches. This makes sense if you look at the big picture in college football.

Years ago, High School Football is where scouts and college coaches search for the next big start. Now the top stars will still get the visits, but the hidden gems will struggle to find a spot. Most of these hidden gems will have to go to smaller schools or drop-down divisions for playing time. By dropping down they will have more film for coaches to look at in the future.

The other big impact is on college coaches as they know that with the portal they need to make an impact quickly. No longer are college aschools waiting for a four-year turnaround they want instant success. The transfer portal has changed everything in college football and not for the better sometimes.

High School football will forever be impacted by the transfer portal, and hopefully it will not cost good players chances to play. From what I see though some hidden gems are struggling to find spots on college football teams unless they drop down divisions.
