Two abandoned robin’s eggs wind tipped to the ground I gathered them gently in my hands and added warmth in loco parentis hoping to preserve life’s potential but now just an exhibit of what might have been of opportunities lost a still life on my bookshelf along with the glass-blown dinosaur from Gatlinburg a cherished creation I carried home in small hands, sixty-five years ago back when summers were the best season respect and reason were our watchwords science was valued, and feelings really mattered
