Capability vs. Alignment

When what you’re capable of doing doesn’t always align to what you truly want to do.

I’ve been doing some soul-searching when it comes to a career shift, like many other people in the world, I’m noticing a change internally. I want a career that I LOVE doing, not just a job to pay the bills.

I currently work in the healthcare field, I have a decent job but I never wanted to be in this field or at least not long-term.

If we go back 20 years or so and asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, you’d hear me say “journalist,” or “writer.” Not nurse, caregiver, or doctor. None of those professions fit me personally. However, I have found myself as a caregiver.

Don’t get me wrong, I have wonderful clients, great hours, work/life balance; but I’m not happy.

I dread going to work. I hate leaving the house when I don’t feel like it. I hate driving.

So like many other people in their mid to late 30’s, I wanting to career switch to something I’m truly passionate about.

For me, it’s writing.

Don’t freak out, I’m not quitting my job to do this… yet.

Like many adults, I have a family that I support and I can’t just up and leave without a plan in motion. Plus, I hear it’s not good to leave a job/career without having something else secured.

I’m grounded. Pacing myself, curating my portfolio.

It’s a slow process, I’m a realist. This is not overnight success.

One thing I am though, persistent.

Have you ever had a goal in mind, hungry to fulfill it?

If you answered “yes,” then you know where I’m at in this.

I’m building. Staying consistent on multiple writing platforms.

Why?

To versify myself and gain community.

Again, another slow process, but I’m showing up and doing the work. My actions will pay off eventually, but when is eventually?

I don’t have the answer to that and I’m okay with not having the answer. My passion is worth the wait.

I’m aware this sounds more like a journal entry, however, if you answered “yes,” to the question I asked you I have a few questions for you:

Are you staying consistent in meeting your goal?

Are you actively pursuing the relationship with it?
