Vibe Coding Solved Code Generation. What Comes Next?
Vibe Coding changed the way many of us build software.
Instead of writing every line ourselves, we describe intent and let AI generate the implementation.
It’s fast.
It’s enjoyable.
And it’s changing software development.
But after months of building larger projects with AI, I noticed something interesting.
Generating code is no longer the hardest part.
Joining an existing project is.
Imagine asking an AI to contribute to a repository that has been evolving for two years.
The code is there.
The documentation is there.
Git history is there.
Yet the AI still doesn’t understand why the architecture looks the way it does.
It doesn’t know which design decisions were temporary.
It doesn’t know which constraints are non-negotiable.
It doesn’t know what the team has already tried and intentionally abandoned.
This isn’t a failure of the model.
It’s a missing layer in our development workflow.
We have tools for writing code.
We have tools for managing repositories.
We have tools for tracking issues.
But we don’t really have a shared intelligence layer that preserves the reasoning behind a project.
That’s the idea I’m exploring with Contorium.
Instead of making AI generate more code, the goal is to help AI understand the project before it writes the next line.
Because in long-term development, understanding is often more valuable than generation.
