Funky Spanish Verdejo

A quick review

This was a real surprise in a good way a really pleasant Verdejo from D.O. Rueda which is located in the Community of Castilla y León but bought in Valencia.

This was another very good inexpensive young white we found on our recent holiday, took a chance as I knew nothing about it, just liked the look of the bottle, it was relatively cheap and I really like Verdejo.

Oinoz Verdejo 2024

Can’t remember exactly how much I paid for it, think it was around 7 or 8 Euros. Straw-like colour with a slight green hue, smelt of pineapple, grapefruit and lemons, and the trademark fennel.

Tastewise it was fresh and bright, almost zingy, lemony, pineapple again, hint of almonds and aniseed. Unoaked but aged for around 3 months on lees which gave it a little more complexity.

It tasted like something much more expensive and a real delight, with our seafood lunch.
