The Clown Theatre of the Tomb Fish Universe: Los Nematodos

A carnival of dead ideas, sung by clowns who have forgotten reality.

Hello. We are the Tomb Fish Universe Orchestra, and Today I’d like to introduce one of its strangest children: the clown play Los Nematodos — and the peculiar clowns who inhabit it.

A Lineage of Foolishness

The play descends from Commedia dell’Arte, the wandering mask theatre of sixteenth-century Italy. Centuries later, Los Nematodos rose from that same mischievous bloodline — a ghostly heir that refuses reality itself.

Make no mistake: this is not realism. It’s theatre that rejects the world.

It does not chase coherence. It feasts on rhythm, irony, and the sweet stench of marine decay — somewhere between a sermon, a circus, and a philosophical dream.

Rules of the Fool’s Stage

Rather than telling a coherent story, Los Nematodos delights in the rhythm of speech, irony, and absurd performance — something between a sermon, a circus, and a philosophical poem.

The Troupe of Clowns

Each clown carries both a name and an idea — half jesters, half philosophers.

Clochard de Enjambement — “The Ragged Master of Meter” A shabby clown in a torn tuxedo, spitting irony like bullets. He sings, narrates, and mocks all at once — the self-proclaimed Manager of the Graveyard.

Sastra — “The Tailor” A small woman with a rasping voice, playing the cunning trickster once common in early theatre.

Jabuti — “The Red-footed Tortoise” A Latin singer whose songs roar like tropical storms. She rarely acts; her voice is her performance.

Clavo Oxidado — “The Rusted Nail” The philosopher among them, delivering long and somber monologues.

Carroña de Mejillón — “The Carrion Mussel” A husky-voiced woman singing flamenco cante as if invoking ghosts.

Don Pinguino — “Mr. Penguin” A slow, kind tenor, often carrying a mandolin — a relic of comic opera’s gentler souls.

L’âme du Pauvre — “The Soul of the Poor” Performer of readings and elegiac recitations — named after the poetic symbol of the pauper’s heart.

Le Charnier de Notion — “The Charnel of Ideas” A soprano who sings of love among corpses of concepts. Her name literally means “a heap of dead bodies.”

Luto — “Mourning Dress” An early clowness now lost to history.

Contadora — “The Accountant” A solemn soprano who sings religious arias with cold precision.

Fanfarrón — “The Braggart” A flamboyant soprano singing of love and vanity — her name comes from a Spanish slur for boastful soldiers.

Merde — “Filth” Another early clowness, a ghost of the theatre’s dirtier roots.

A Theatre of Poetic Madness

Their world smells of forgotten seas — part Mediterranean, part Iberian, perhaps entirely imaginary. Their words are written, yet sound improvised — philosophical, archaic, and sung in voices rough with devotion.

There is little plot. Only voice, gesture, and the audacity of language itself. It is less a play than a ritual of poetry.

Beyond Opera

Opera is not a form but an ecosystem. In that sense, Los Nematodos is no parody, but a living descendant of Opera Buffa — reborn in the surreal graveyard of the Tomb Fish Universe.
