My first saas side project: trend pulse.

From a Frustrating Morning Routine to an AI-Powered News Intelligence Platform. How one developer turned the daily information overload into a curated, intelligent news experience. It started on an ordinary morning. I sat with my coffee, phone in hand, scrolling through what felt like an endless feed of news notifications.

By the time I finished my “quick morning scan,” 20 minutes had evaporated. And the real question hit me: What did I actually learn?

The answer was sobering. I had consumed dozens of headlines but retained almost nothing meaningful. I had seen the news, but I had missed the trends. I knew what happened , but I had no idea why it mattered .

I wasn’t alone in this struggle. Everyone I spoke to — colleagues, friends, fellow professionals — described the same pattern of information overload followed by insight poverty. We were drowning in content but starving for understanding.

That’s when the seed of TrendPulse was planted.

Defining the North Star: What Actually Matters? Before creating the project, I spent some time thinking about the core problem: “How can technology help professionals consume news intelligently rather than compulsively?” I got some principles in my head, it was time to build.

Here is the flow: News Sources (RSS/Direct) ↓ Cron Trigger to fetching sources ↓ Embedding and pgvector similarity search ↓ Summarize contents with AI and send email.

Thanks for AI, it did not cost me much time to finish building website.

But the biggest problem is the content quality, sometimes the information sources are not good enough, still working on it.

TrendPulse is live at trendpulse.me and I’m actively improving it. The next priorities are:

Trend heatmaps — Visualize which topics are gaining momentum

• Custom source addition — Let users add their own RSS feeds
• Weekly trend reports — AI-generated PDF reports of the week’s key developments
