The Weight of Fearing Everything

If you carry the crushing weight of fearing everything in life, then you know how unbearably heavy it becomes after a while. You probably spent years watching other people surrender themselves to life so effortlessly while you stood there in disbelief, wondering how they could move so freely through a world that terrified you.

You probably asked yourself a thousand times, Why am I like this? And somewhere along the way, you started hating yourself for it.

For everyone else, the sea seemed calm. And even when storms came, they simply reacted and kept swimming. But you stayed on the rocks, staring into the waves, imagining every possible way you could drown.

For a while, there were people beside you, so you tried not to think about it too much. Their presence softened the noise in your head. But once they left, you realized how helpless you really were — like a child abandoned too early in a world that already felt unsafe.

The cruelest part is that anxiety slowly steals your ability to live. You avoid things to survive, but in doing so, you never learn that you actually can. And one day you notice that your survival skills were never built at all, because your entire life became an endless act of escaping.

What I’m describing is only the visible side of it. People with anxiety — the ones who overthink until their minds collapse under the weight of their own thoughts — will understand the rest without explanation.

Sometimes everything feels so overwhelming, so doomed from the beginning, that even death starts looking less frightening than tomorrow. There are nights when you secretly hope you won’t wake up, not because you truly want to die, but because you are exhausted from carrying a mind that never stops preparing for disasters that haven’t happened.

Your brain grows tired from inventing tragedies for every possibility life offers. You no longer know what is real danger and what is merely fear wearing a convincing mask.

And somehow, the loneliest part is this: other people think your fears are ridiculous.

“Where do you even come up with these things?” they ask.

But they do not understand that our minds do not work like theirs. Their thoughts pass through them like clouds. Ours arrive like storms.

So at the end of the day, all you can really do is whisper silent prayers to God, asking for relief from yourself, asking for one peaceful night where your mind finally forgets how to be afraid.

And despite everything, despite the exhaustion, despite the darkness that anxiety drapes over your life like a permanent winter, a small part of you still hopes:

Maybe one day, we will finally be free from this.
