This week? Honestly? Almost perfect. I got 3 out of 4 planned runs done — which, in comeback math, is basically a gold star and a standing ovation. Go me.

But the real plot twist this week came courtesy of my husband and his brilliant idea:

“Let’s run by the beach at sunrise!”

Sounds romantic, right? Peaceful, picturesque, practically a Nike ad. Except… I forgot one small thing: Running with someone else is hard. Emotionally. Physically. Spiritually.

Years ago, I had two magical running partners. Our paces were in sync. We could talk endlessly or just share the silence like some kind of cardio soulmates. It was effortless. Fluid. Almost telepathic. This was not that.

My husband, who has not been running (let the record show!), somehow ran faster. Effortlessly. Casually. Like he was on a nature stroll sponsored by smugness.

I, on the other hand, was wheezing like an oversized hippo on the banks of Lake Naivasha while pretending I was completely fine.

But was I going to let him know I was struggling? Absolutely not. Because I am powered by resilience, pride, and Girl Power. I will not be dropped on a sunrise jog by a man who has no clue what fartleks are!

So I pushed through. I smiled. Okay, fine — I grimaced attractively and panted like a very determined pug. But I did not quit.

And eventually… I got to enjoy it. The sunrise. The sea breeze. The sound of our shoes hitting the pavement. That quiet, shared moment when words weren’t needed, just movement.

Even though it wasn’t perfect, it reminded me: Every run doesn’t have to feel good to be good. And sometimes, stubbornness is a perfectly valid training tool.

Still panting. Still showing up. 😄
