What years of Corporate stress taught me.

is it really worth it? Let’s Find out..

It’s Sunday afternoon. I’m laughing at one of my dad’s silly jokes. And then — it hits me.

“Oh God, tomorrow is Monday… What should I tell my manager about that pending work?”, a sudden strike of work anxiety takes away my attention from my dad to my own thoughts.

I fall into the same trap, — let me complete the work today and from next weekend I can spend time with my family.

I open my laptop.

My dad smiles at me — a small smile with much bigger worry behind it.

My first job took away all my confidence to the last drop in just 2 years.

I worked day and night (even though I didn’t want to) .

To prove myself.

For the fear of losing a job if I didn’t fit in.

I ignored my mental and physical health, my family, my happiness..

My entire world was built around that job and I thought that is how it is supposed to be (everyone around me seemed to do the same)

Then COVID and cost cutting entered the world —

and I lost it all.

I felt devastated.

All I was left with was anxiety, stress, insecurity, inferiority and health problems.

It took some time to find another but the constant fear of losing it always haunted me and it made me give 200% all the time even when only 50% was needed.

The SAME OLD TRAP !

At some point, I decided to take a short break (with so much guilt and calculation) — and I resigned.

I was under the assumption that there would be sessions to convince me to stay back.

But they didn’t give sh*t.

In fact, it felt like they wanted me gone.

If you are with me through this story till now, chances are you’ve felt something similar.

But was all the sacrifices worth it? A BIG NO.

No job is worth your happiness, health and family.

As you often see on social media, If you’re dead, the company will hire your replacement the next minute, but your family? No one can fill that void you leave behind.

So treat a job as a job, not your life .

One of my closest friends always tells me when I’m stressed: “If you lose this job, there are millions of jobs like this, you will get one, don’t worry”.

Take care
