Catching Up with Daniel Mulushet

By Limara Yakemchuk

Last December, competitive runner Daniel Mulushet sat down with PISE to provide some insight into his athletic career. Daniel was kind enough to revisit his 2024 race season with PISE, where he ran 5 races in the first half of the year alone before taking a 3 month break and finishing out the year with 4 more races.

Daniel started the year with the Harriers 8K before moving onto a number of 10k, half marathon, and marathon races, with his last race for 2024 taking place in London, Ontario. He learned a lot throughout the year, whether from his competitors or through self-reflection after each race. He emphasized that there is always room to improve between competitions, and that preparing for the weather on Race Day is paramount. In addition to his races, Daniel joined Team BC in 2024 to further his chances to qualify for National level competitions. His motto of always having room to improve rings true with this choice, having not qualified the year prior. Even amidst an injury, Daniel was able to trust in himself and finish 4th in his race, noting the celebrations with his Coach Bruce as a highlight. Later, when he got the call from his coach that he secured a spot on the team, celebrations quickly transitioned into a determination to prove his value as an athlete to the team and himself. Since joining, his training has remained relatively similar to his previous routine that earned him his spot.

Luckily, the move to Team BC didn’t involve a move to a new city, and Daniel still happily calls Victoria his home. He has found an appreciation of the community, noting the special environment at PISE, where he’s able to surround himself with other high-performing athletes, whether at a professional or developing level. He especially enjoys the energy around PISE, and has gratitude for the PISE team and their support.

As far as what 2025 holds, Daniel is coming into the year with the mindset to get on the podium at the Team BC Championship, and then in Nationals so he can qualify for Team Canada. He is committed to upholding high standards and a strong work ethic so he can go on to achieve his goals. We hope to watch you succeed, Daniel!
